From the early 1800s onwards there were a lot of great exhibitions around the world.The countries wanted to show for example.industrial products, handicrafts and arts.

Even small countries as Sweden had exhibitions. One of the first and most famous was the Stockholm Exhibition of 1897, when Oscar II also celebrated his 25th anniversary on the throne.

During the exhibitions great quantities of souvenirs were sold, including memory handkerchiefs with hand-embroidered motifs and where you could get your name enbroidered in one corner.
